20th Week Exam – Level II Scan
I’m officially at five months now or 21 weeks, so I’m half way through my pregnancy. I had a small bout of nausea for about a week, but aside from that, it’s been pretty easy.
In the last week, I’ve felt the baby move around more, a few kicks here and there and went in for the Level II scan. During the Level II scan, they scan the anatomy of the baby, so we got to see the four chambers of the heart, the brain, 3D images of the baby, the spine (that was kind of freaky), 10 toes and 10 fingers, the stomach, the kidneys, my placenta and my ovaries. Henry was able to get out of work for a little while to go, and my mom went with us too. I thought it would be interesting for her to see how things have changed since she had the three of us and to get her first glimpse of her first grand child.
And aside from finding out whether the anatomy of your baby looks okay, you can also find out the gender of the baby, if he/she is cooperative. We wanted to know to begin preparing for little baby boy sham or little baby girl sham. It’s just easier to know if you should be getting cute little dresses or you shouldn’t. We were in luck, as soon as the sonographer put the transducer on my belly, the sonographer described it as the baby sitting on the screen.
Anyway, we saw our baby’s little legs and boy parts in the middle. Yes, the next Sham will be a boy. My mom wanted a boy and Henry and I didn’t have a preference, but both thought it would be a girl. I also did one of those Chinese Lunar Calendar Baby Gender Prediction tool and it said girl, so a word to the wise, it is not 100% accurate.
Our sonographer also gave us a lot of pictures of our baby boy including the first one showing his boy parts. There are a few 3D images that just look very scary and from what my mom and Monica say, he looks like Henry. Neither of us could really tell who he looked like. But while looking at the 3D images, we saw our little guy moon us and kind of wave at us. He also kept covering his face as if to say, “Leave me alone, I’m resting.” So cute!
Henry and I took a cab to get to work and throughout our cab ride back, we were just so giddy, not because it was going to be a boy, but just knowing it was a boy, knowing that we can say we are going to have a son, but it made it so much more real and scary. We are psyched and now have about four months to prepare everything for our bundle of joy in July. Wish us luck!

you said the sonographer gave you pics of the baby’s boy parts… and that the 3D images were scary… but your mom and Nora think the baby looks like Henry…
just one question… how do your mom and Nora know how Henry’s boy parts look like?
