Photos from Sky Diving
For Elaine’s 30th birthday, she wanted to go sky diving, so some of us went sky diving with her. We went two days after Henry and I got back from Hawaii. We went to Skydive Long Island in Calverton, Long Island.
We get to Skydive Long Island and we have to watch a video and sign a waiver and then we wait. We waited for about two hours, watching people pile into tiny planes, take off, and then watch for their parachutes to land. It was a very nerve-wracking two hours.
We all can’t fit in on one plane so Elaine, Vinny, Lily and Lily’s friend go in the first one. Henry, me, Nelson and Judy go in the next one. We fly up about 13k feet, it takes about 15 minutes and the whole time my heart beats faster and faster. We get to the right height and I’m the first of us four to get out of the plane. Miles, the guy I am strapped to, pushes me to the edge of the plane, my legs are dangling out and I feel the wind everywhere. We rock on the edge of the plane and the third rock is when you fall out of the plane.
While free falling, I remember screaming at the top of my lungs in horror at what I’ve just done. But eventually my voice gives way and I stop freaking out and remember I paid to have a person jump with me to take pictures and video tape it, so I stop freaking out and plaster a smile on my face. It wasn’t too bad after that. We free fall for about 40 seconds before Miles releases the parachute. Who knew 40 seconds is that long!! After the parachute opens, it is fine. Miles did some spins with the parachute and then it was just a sight seeing tour of Long Island.
It was definitely an experience I’m happy to have done, but I probably don’t need to do it again.

Oh I was freaking out when I was screaming at the top of my lungs. It helped when I stopped looking down at the ground that I was plunging down to.
I’m really glad we got to do it!

Me too! Definitely a good story. Thanks for all these pics – I would have no memories of my birthday if it weren’t for you… well except for the blurry ones in my head!

What a great time! I had so much fun. You look like you were ready for all the pictures while you were falling. You look so graceful. I was freaking out!
