In Waikiki
We had a very uneventful flight to Honolulu yesterday, which is great. We landed and hopped on an airport shuttle to our hotel in Waikiki, still uneventful. We checked in and found out our room has two beds and would have to upgrade rooms to get one king bed. We didn’t upgrade, so we have two beds, one to sleep on and one to work on.
We walked around a bit, walked around the beach a little, but were starving so we went to the Sansei Seafood Restaurant & Sushi Bar. We got an assortment of sushi/rolls and most of it was great. We tried:
- Panko Crusted Ahi Sashimi Sushi Roll: Sashimi grade Hawaiian ahi, arugula and spinach wrapped into a sushi roll, panko-crusted, flash-fried and served with Sansei’s mild soy wasabi butter sauce
- Chinese Style Sashimi: Sashimi grade shiromi seared in hot sesame oil with cilantro and soy
- Seared Foie Gras Nigiri Sushi: Lightly seared foie gras served with caramelized Maui onions,
ripe mango and rich unagi glaze drizzle - Fresh Hawaiian Ahi Carpaccio: Grade “A” Sashimi flattened thin and served with cilantro, roasted peanuts, lime zest and sweet Thai vinaigrette
- Sansei Style Ahi Poke: With Sweet Maui Onions
We loved the panko crusted ahi sashimi roll, the seared foie gras nigiri sushi roll and the sansei style ahi poke. The fresh Hawaiian ahi carpaccio and Chinese style sashimi were ok.
We ended the night with cocktails at a bar.
It was an easy night, but we were tired from our travels since we didn’t sleep at all the night before.
