Red Mango
After not having tried Pinkberry or Red Mango because of the insane lines I usually see, I finally tried Red Mango on Monday. They opened one up recently in my neighborhood on 8th Avenue between 45th and 46th Street.
It started with with dinner at Kodama with my usual Monday crowd, Nick (who recently moved into my building) and Mike and Kit (who have been living in my building). We love going there because we have great service with Noa(?), great sushi and we have our own personal “Reserved” sign for our usual table that includes pictures of us. How much better could it be? And we actually had a celebrity sighting. We saw Laurie Metcalf from Roseanne. She was seated diagonally from us with possibly her husband and daughter.
After dinner Nick wanted sundaes from McDonald’s and Mike wanted Red Mango. I was just imming with Nora about Red Mango at work, so I wanted to give it a try. Plus Jen and Cheryl love it too over Pinkberry. We split up with Nick and Kit going for sundaes and Mike and I going to Red Mango.
Nora had advised me that the green tea flavor wasn’t good, but I love green tea and went against Nora’s advice and got the green tea with mangoes and strawberries. The green tea was kind of odd. At first you taste green tea, but then you have a yogurt after taste which was kind of weird, but I won’t say it was bad. Next time I’ll try the original flavor to see if I like it better.
A pet peeve that Mike pointed out and that I now also share is that as you’re eating through the dessert, you’ll see a big gaping hole in the middle. So it’s expensive enough already, but they don’t really fill your cup? What’s up with that? And why is green tea more expensive?

Laurie Metcalf isnt really a celebrity, not anymore anyway. It’s like paying $10 for a thong – you really just paid $10 for a small piece of string.

Best yet – there’s another yogurt place – Pantree right off of Northern & Oceania. The place serves Foxberry- the best swirl plain with blueberry frozen yogurt. PLUS it costs less and does not have a hole in the center.

When Mike and I went back, we mentioned “the hole”. We were told that they are supposed to weigh the cup after each fill to ensure that each serving is the correct size (ie. the nutritional info stacks up against what they publish). I’ve noticed that they actually do weigh the cups so I’ve stopped worrying about the hole!
If you feel you’re getting jipped opt for a smoothie. You get 4oz. more than a small cup for the same price.

I just stumbled upon your blog because I just experienced korean fro yo today for the first time and I’m hooked. I was attempting to google to find the nutritional info for foxberry (I had it at pantree). I am unable to find it. Anyone have any idea where I could look?

Yes, we’ve all noticed the huge gaping hole!! If you get a less skilled employee sometimes you don’t get the hole.
