My Oh Crap! Moment

We, or more realistically I, used to do laundry about once every four to five weeks. It was tough on my arms and back. Henry was usually helpless because of school, recruiting and now work. With the hot weather, we go through clothes much more quickly, especially with Henry wearing an under shirt, dress shirt, tie and suit to work Monday-Thursday, poor Henry. It’s been much better now. I’ve started doing laundry every two weeks instead. I usually finish washing and drying a little after an hour and then it’s just folding. I feel less anger towards Henry’s lack of involvement this way.

Since I do the laundry more frequently, instead of doing four loads of laundry at once, I’ve decreased it all into one medium sized washer. It saves me some money and I don’t have to sort my laundry. Usually this hasn’t been a problem, but I had a tiny problem today. After moving the clothes from the washer to the dryer, I noticed one of my white gym socks was very very pink. Then I saw one of Henry’s polo shirts, a white with blue stripes one had pink splotches all over it, kind of like a tie dyed pattern. Then was the, “Oh crap! I just ruined Henry’s shirt.”

I finished putting the rest of the clothes into the dryer and brought the shirt back upstairs while it was still wet. I immediately scrubbed Shout Ultra Gel, the kind that has the scrubbing brush on it, into the many pink sploshes while wondering if Henry would believe me if I told him I didn’t know where his shirt went, but secretly threw it out since I ruined it, not that I thought I would be able to pull it off, I’m a horrible liar and Henry sees what through me. I went to rinse out the shirt and the pink spots faded, but only slightly.

Not knowing what to do, I started looking around my bathroom and noticed the Clorox Bleach Pen in one of our baskets. I bought it probably a year ago, but have rarely used it because I try not to wear white if I may get it dirty. (Side note: Dada, Henry’s sister, swears by the Clorox Bleach Pen.) I started rubbing the bleach pen over the pink stains, waited a little while, probably like 30 seconds, and then rinsed. And you know what?? It worked! No more pink stains. The Clorox Bleach Pen is the best thing in the world, right up there with the Magic Eraser. Now I don’t have to worry about explaining how I washed our clothes with one of my pink t-shirt, think hot pink, and almost ruined one of his golf shirts.

i use shout for ring around the collar. i put on the collars and sleeves of all henry’s shirts before i bring them to the dry cleaners, just make sure they wash the shirts and not dry clean them.

well i told him about his shirt and showed him everything was fine with it, and told him i considered throwing it out and lying to him, but he said i should have told him i just ruined it, that the truth is always the best, but he would have given me such hell!

trust me, the shirt was pink in a way that he would never be able to wear it again.
