Kyotofu
I read about Kyotofu (705 Ninth Avenue, between 48th and 49th Streets) months ago in Daily Candy and have wanted to visit. Nora and I were supposed to go one day after dinner, but our dinner plans got canceled and we weren’t able to go. I finally went on Saturday, on a sort of double date type thing.
When we got there, the outside doesn’t really have a sign, so you’re kind of left guessing if it’s it. It looks modern inside. There is a counter with 4 chairs right alongside the front of the place. In the back there are another 24 seats, so this place is small and gets packed quickly. We waited for about 10 minutes for a table, not too bad. The back seating area looks pretty cool too. The seats against the walls are white leather. The tables are pretty closely spaced together, because this is 9th Avenue, space is limited.
The guys got the sake flights which were pretty good. The girls got the original sweet tofu (black sugar sauce, dried apricot) and a sansho pepper tofu cheesecake (shiro-an vanilla cream, shochu ginger, fruit carpaccio). The sweet tofu tastes like the Chinese sweet tofu dessert. The tofu cheesecake was… interesting. We couldn’t decide if it was interesting good or bad, it was just interesting. I think they have new menus every month.
I will definitely be back to try some of their other desserts, hopefully with Nora.

Was that for lunch or a late dinner? Have you tried any of their desserts?
