Azubar
My co-worker, Ally, is leaving so we took her out for dinner and drinks at Azubar (939 8th Avenue), somewhere close to work. It is a Cuban restuarant. The staff there isn’t exactly polite and some of them border on rude, but the food there was really good and I hear they have really good mojitos (we had a lot of pitchers of it), but I don’t like mojitos, so we got one pitcher of sangria that I did drink and thought was good.
For appetizers we had papas rellenas, empanadas, chorizo salteado con mariquitas, and jamon serrrano y queso manchego. All were really good. For my entree, I got filetilo salteado el chinito (slices of prime beef sauteed with garlic, onion and green pepper served with Cuban fried rice). We also had maduros (fried sweet plantain) that were nice and ripe and sweet and beans to go with our rice.
My co-worker all enjoyed the food and the atmosphere too. Towards the end of our meal, a live band started playing, so it’s a nice place to go to after work to just relax, grab some drinks and/or food.
