I Hate the 7 Train

I hate the 7 train! What did it do now? I was supposed to wake up early to go into Flushing to work out with Nora. My alarm clock went off and instead of snoozing at 7:15AM, I turned it off. I didn’t wake up again until 8:30, which was almost the time that I had to be in Flushing. I called Nora and apologized profusely and then went to bed, but told her I would still be heading over for brunch at her place with my mom and Monica.

I wake up again at around 10:15AM and get ready to leave. I live near the A,C,E but walked down to the 7 train only to find out that the service was suspended to Queens, they did not mention a reason, so I walked back to the A,C,E (I hate that avenue long walk). I take the E to 74th Street – Roosevelt to transfer to the 7 only to find the staircases of the Flushing and Manhattan bound trains blocked off. People were coming in and out of the station asking about the 7 train but all I heard was that it was not running.

I walk out of the train station wondering what I’m going to do and thinking about how much I hate the 7 train. I call Nora to fill her in on the latest developments about how I’m going to be late (again) and then call my mom back and fill her in too (she mentioned she had problems on the 7 train last night too).

I see an Asian woman talking to a car service and think if she’s going to Flushing, we can grab one together and split the cost. I approach her and speak to her in English, she tells me to leave her alone in English. So I ask her where she is going in Cantonese and get yet another rude response, for whatever reason, I didn’t walk away and tried one more question. I asked her if she was going to Flushing in Cantonese and finally got a polite response that she was going and I asked her if she wanted to split a car service, and she was very eager to, probably because she didn’t speak a lick of English and would have problems communicating where she wanted to go and finding out a price from the drivers.

We get in and after awhile, I realize the driver has no clue where he is going, I watch him drive down streets, make turns and drive back up streets. I wanted to ask him if he was lost, but not being from around there, I also had no clue how to get to Flushing. But logically, I would have driven straight down Roosevelt Avenue. We didn’t hit Roosevelt Avenue for 30 minutes!!! He just kept making random turns here and there until we finally hit an area he was familiar with (a big highway) and turned onto Roosevelt Avenue and sped to Flushing the rest of the way. I was planning on getting to Nora’s early, but the 7 train had other plans for me. Damn that train!

[...] I ventured into Flushing this weekend and luckily didn’t have the same problems as last week. While on the bus to Nora’s, an Asian man sits next to me and he’s carrying a large purple suede purse. It was very very odd! [...]
