Nora & Alan’s Wedding
Nora and Alan could not ask for a more perfect day. The weather was great, the sun was shining and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky, all in all, a great day to have a wedding. The drive out to the Riviera, in Massapequa LI, wasn’t too bad, we didn’t hit any traffic. We got there, behind the limo, at around 10:30 AM. Some of my cousins (and their signficant others), other family members and the bridal party hammed it up for our cameras to catch those moments before the craziness begins. Most of the younger people in my photos are cousins, I have a lot of cousins, but the only male one is Eric, so he’s kind of hard to miss.
The wedding went as we rehearsed from Alan’s house. Judge Silverman, who married Henry and me, presided over the wedding vows. Before we knew it, it was cocktail hour. Nora and Alan originally wanted to do it outdoors, but the staff at the Riviera advised against it because the bees were out enjoying the warm weather and would be a nightmare for the rest of us.
The first dance between Nora and Alan was sweet and looked a little rehearsed, but that’s okay. I’m not sure what song they used, but I’ll find out when they get back from their honeymoon. The best man, Steve (and Alan’s little brother), gave a nice speech, but I gotta say Raquel’s was better.
This was the only wedding I’ve been too where you never really had to worry about filling up the dance floor. Alan’s parents and friends can really dance! I also have to give props to Cheryl, the girl can dance and get the audience going. I was pretty shocked, I didn’t think any of my family members had it in them, I definitely don’t.
The emcee did something different before the garter toss, he made all the bachelors get down and give him twenty push-ups. Then he noticed two guys not raising their hands to catch the garter, so they had to drop and do another twenty.
The food at the Riviera was pretty good, Henry said it was the only place he’s been to with good food. He got the duck and I had the prime rib. Something that was surprising though was that there was spinach in the salads. Did they not get the memo about the huge spinach scare and how we’re supposed to throw them out? Or did they forget that Nora specifically told them no spinach? But I ate the spinach, and I feel fine.
Anyway, Nora looked stunning in her four gowns, as did Alan in his one suit. =) It was a great wedding and I hope everyone had a great time. I still can’t believe that my baby sister is married!
For those interested, the wedding gown Nora wore is the Maggie Sottero – Chanel. Wasn’t it gorgeous?

I would see him walking around with the camera down and I would look at Henry and say, “Why isn’t he taking any pictures? What is he doing?” and I really said “What is he doing?” when I saw him in my cake cutting pic and he wasn’t taking a picture!!

In the pic where you’re going to do the bouqet toss, where are there girls wearing white dresses and black dresses? Don’t they know better?

[...] Last week Henry and I walked by Beard Papa’s and I got excited because they have really good cream puffs. I tried it once before when my Aunt Brenda and cousin Sarah were in town for Nora’s wedding. Though Sarah had tried it before in Hong Kong. Cora introduced the Astor Place (740 Broadway) Beard Papa’s to us. Anyway back to Henry and me, I walked in, but they were closing, so I was disappointed. I told Henry the next time he goes to NYU to pick up one for me. [...]

[...] Last year around this time I had two weddings to go to, Nora & Alan’s and Elaine & Vinny’s. This year is no different. We have a wedding tonight, one of Henry’s NYU friends and next week is Henry’s cousin in SF. The problem? I don’t have any dresses to wear yet, even for the one today. Work has been keeping me so busy that I just don’t have time to shop for me. Henry and I are going to go look for one, we have about 3 hours to find one, maybe two. Wish me luck!
