Dos Caminos Park

Henry, Nora and I went to Dos Caminos on Park yesterday for dinner. It was very dimly lit, which was good for me, since I had just come from the gym with Nora and didn’t change back into my work clothes. The food was pretty good, we started off with their red wine sangria, which was a little watered down, but still good, the white sounded good too. We go the guacamole that was made fresh to order (though they didn’t make it in front of us, they took the bowl from our table and came back with it filled guacamole, so I’m not sure how I am really supposed to believe it’s fresh). It was good but needed a bit more lime juice and cilantro (and onions according to Henry). The salsa they brought over was kind of blah. I was the only one who liked the mild one, the medium was very un-salsa like and the hot one was very hot, but kind of reminded me of Dave’s Insanity. We also got the Ceviche Trio (salmon ceviche, tuna ceviche and seafood campechana). All three were good, but the salmon was the best. For our meals, Henry got the Chipotle Barbeque Niman Ranch Pork Ribs which were delicious. They were so tender that they really did just fall off the bone. Nora got the Cazuela de Mariscos (seared jumbo shrimp and diver scallops, toasted garlic, morita chiles, roasted tomatoes served with achiote rice) which was also very good. The sauce everything was in was very good. I got the Cochinita Pork (slow roasted pork with sauteed plantains, habanero pickled onions, achiote sauce) and it was very disappointing. The pork was very tender, but it had the consistency of canned tuna, which I’ve never had in pork. It just tasted like very cheap or low grade pork.

This was Henry’s second time there. The first time there he saw Russell Simmons and he thought the food was delicious. He highly recommends Ribeye Steak Alambre (skewered with applewood smoked bacon, cipiollini onions and poblano chiles, with arroz con crema and chimichurri sauce). Why didn’t any of us get it this time? We’re greedy and want to try as many different things as possible, but I’m getting it the next time I’m there!
